The director and administrator of FC Porto died this Wednesday, a victim of covid-19

FC Porto says goodbye to Reinaldo Teles, a historical figure who has been linked to the club for almost all his life. He died today, a victim of covid-19.

In fact, he was only 12 years old, in 1962, when this journey began. The young Reinaldo wanted to practice boxing and joined the FC Porto section, a sport in which he would stand out and open the door to much more.

Since its inception, boxing has sponsored the friendship with Jorge Nuno Pinto da Costa, who in 1967 became section chief and witnessed the achievements of Reinaldo, regional middleweight champion in 1971 and national champion in the same category three years later. .

“I had many skills but, above all, I trained a lot. I was hitting for more than an hour and I was champion because I was stronger, more agile in my legs and arms. As I remember, I never went to the mat and I never lost by KO”, said Reinaldo Teles, in an interview with the journalist Costa Santos.

He had 17 years with fearsome right hooks and a passion for the sport that didn’t stop when he hung up his gloves. In 1979 he went directly to the sectionalist position, a position he held until 1982, when Pinto da Costa became president and elected Reinaldo as deputy director of football.

But Reinaldo never abandoned boxing, a modality practiced by FC Porto athletes in Campanhã, in the “Espaço Reinaldo Teles”. There, next to the strings, the face and name of a figure are engraved for whom everyone has deep respect and affection.
