Between 2006 and December 2020, 80,517 people were reported missing in Mexico. As of this Friday the number has increased to 82,888.

Between 2006 and 2021, 82,000 people go missing in Mexico, an average of 455 people per month. The situation is due to the “growing confrontation between criminal groups in different regions of the country,” says the undersecretary for Human Rights, Population and Migration, Alejandro Encinas.

At a press conference at the National Palace, Encinas, quoted by the EFE news agency, he explained that between 2006 and December 2020, 80,517 people were reported missing in Mexico. As of this Friday, the number has risen to 82,888.

In 2020, there was a 22.39% decrease in the number of reports of missing persons, compared to 2019. In the same year, there was also “a 33% decrease in the number of mass graves found and a reduction of almost 18% in recovered bodies “.

Between December 1, 2018 and December 31, 2020, 56.4% of the 37,807 missing persons were located in that period, most of them alive.
