The positions of the 2nd phase of the National Contest for Access to Higher Education are already known, with 9787 students placed, which corresponds to 43% of the candidates. For the third and final phase, which begins on the 22nd, there are now 4255 vacancies. As in the 1st phase of the contest, the increase in entry marks stands out.
Calculated, in 105 courses the last placed entered with 17 or more values. There are 35 other courses with an average higher than 17 if we compare with the results of the 2nd phase of the competition last year. The pressure on the averages was, furthermore, to be expected due to the relaxation of the criteria for evaluating national examinations due to the impact of the pandemic in the third period. In the 1st phase, let us remember, there was an average increase in grades above 0.5 values, with four courses exceeding the threshold of 19 values.

In this second phase, according to data published by the Ministry of Higher Education, the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto has two courses in the top3 for admission. Bioengineering was the one that obtained the highest rating, with 195.8 points, and Industrial Engineering and Management – leader in the 1st phase in which the average entry rate, exceeding 19.13 points – with 192.8 points . The third place is this former equitable with the Integrated Master of Medicine from the same University. In second place, the New Medicine Lisbon course was classified with 194.2 points.
It is also worth highlighting a total of 42 courses that did not have a candidate, the majority being polytechnic institutes. In the 1st phase, let us remember, there were 32. With Civil Engineering, in line with previous years, there were 291 vacancies for the 3rd phase, with eight courses without demand. On the contrary, areas such as Nursing or Pharmacy filled all the places tendered.

As the averages increased, the courses with an entry mark below 10 values ​​were also reduced to nine. They are 17 less compared to the 2nd phase last year. It should be noted that 54% of placed students enter polytechnic education and the rest go to university.

Once the two access phases are closed, 53,984 new Higher Education students are already at the top, a growth of 16% compared to 2019. Estimates of guardianship reach 95 thousand.
