Hunt to find who stole material from Russian planes designed for nuclear war

A group of assailants took technical equipment from a top-secret Russian military plane, dubbed the “Plane of Doomsday,” designed to be used in nuclear warfare. Authorities have already set up a manhunt operation, Reuters said.

When a team performed maintenance work on the Ilyushin Il-80 plane, the plane was robbed, but the theft was not discovered until earlier this week. Last Friday was due to the lack of 39 electronic units belonging to the “Plane of the Last Judgment” and signs of invasion were found through the cargo hatch.

According to a statement from the Rostov region police, without giving further details, the authorities said that the search operation was still ongoing, but that no suspects were found. The stolen material was worth around one million rubles, or about 11,000 euros, police added.

The equipment was allegedly stolen because some units on the plane were assembled from precious metals, such as gold and platinum, some Russian experts believe. It is that the plane was modified from a Soviet Union jet aircraft, which was used at the end of the Cold War as an air command post for senior officers to control their troops.

The robbery came shortly after Russian President Vladimir Putin invested a lot of money in reforming the country’s military. The Kremlin has already guaranteed that steps will be taken to prevent a repeat of such a situation.
