This Sunday, Portugal registered 3,834 new cases and 87 deaths from covid-19. In total, more than 322,474 people have already been infected with the new coronavirus and 4,963 have died. In the past 24 hours, 2,852 more have recovered from the disease.
After having counted 4,093 infected last Sunday, Portugal registered a slight decrease: in the last 24 hours they were registered 3834 positive cases of covid-19. It should be noted, however, that, in view of the epidemiological data made available this Saturday, when more than 6,087 infected people were registered, the fall was quite pronounced.
The bulletin of the General Directorate of Health (DGS) also reports that 87 more infected died, raising the total number of deaths to 4,963. It is the second worst day in the number of deaths, equaling the data of November 28, both only exceeded 91 deaths on the 16th of last month, the blackest in terms of deaths (1998 in total) and cases (156,782, more than half of the total infections registered to date).
According to the same document, 2,852 patients were recovered, bringing the total number of people who overcame the disease to 243,055. In summary, there are 74,456 active cases of covid-19 in Portugal, 895 more than on Saturday.
Among the 87 deaths, 63, the vast majority (77%), were over 80 years old (30 men and 33 women). In the immediately preceding age group, 70 to 79 years, 14 people died, 10 men and four women, while in the 60 to 69 age group, six people died, four men and two women.
As usual, deaths in other age groups are few, but almost daily. Three men under 60 years old and a woman under 50 died, recalling that the disease, although on a smaller scale, also kills among the least elderly.
The number of hospitalized patients increased again, 39 more than on Saturday, for a total of 3,268. However, there are less three people in the Intensive Care Units, with 514 patients now considered the most serious.
As usual, the northern region has the highest increase in infection cases: 2,258. Lisbon and the Tagus Valley follow, with 773 new infections. In the Central region there are more than 500, in Alentejo 215 and Algarve 62. The archipelago of the Azores has 22 new cases and Madeira has four more.
North with about half of the national deaths
According to the DGS bulletin, the North region is the one that registers the highest number of new infections by SARS-CoV-2 in the last 24 hours (2,258), totaling 169,721 cases and 2,393 deaths since March, almost half of the national total of deaths.
In the Lisbon and Tagus Valley region, 773 new cases have been reported, with 105,221 cases of infection and 1,727 deaths so far.
In the Central region, there were 500 additional cases of covid-19, for a total of 32,862 and 643 deaths since March.
In Alentejo, 215 more cases were reported, totaling 6,858 cases and 125 deaths since the epidemic began in Portugal.
The Algarve region has reported 62 new cases, with a total of 5,679 cases and 55 deaths.
In the Autonomous Region of the Azores, 22 new cases were registered in the last 24 hours, adding 1171 detected infections and 18 deaths since the start of the pandemic.
Madeira registered four new cases. Since March, the autonomous community has recorded 962 infections and two deaths.
Confirmed cases are distributed in all age groups, with the highest number of infections between 20 and 59 years.
The new coronavirus has already infected at least 141,879 men and 174,461 women in Portugal, according to DGS data, according to which there are 6,134 cases of unknown sex, which are under investigation, since these data are provided automatically.
Of the total deaths, 2,592 were men and 2,371 women.
Portugal has been in a state of emergency from November 9 to December 8, during which time there is a mandatory curfew in counties with the highest risk of contagion.
During the week, the curfew must be respected between 11:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m., while on weekends and holidays, circulation is limited between 1:00 p.m. on Saturday and 5:00 a.m. on Sunday and between 1:00 p.m. on Sunday. and 5 am on Monday.
The covid-19 pandemic caused at least 1,529,324 deaths derived from more than 66.4 million cases of infection worldwide, according to a report prepared by the French agency AFP.
