Xavier Damião, suspected of killing his 61-year-old father and his 37-year-old pregnant sister, was arrested early Monday, after having been on the run since Saturday. He used three different melee weapons to kill his family.

After killing relatives in the residence they all shared with fatal blows, the alleged assailant got into his sister’s car, fleeing to Lisbon. He ended up being approached this morning, when he was driving on public roads, without face protection, in the municipality of Amadora, accompanied by another person who is not involved in the events.

The arrest was made by PSP in Amadora around 12:30 am, during an inspection operation in that place due to the curfew imposed by the Government due to Covid-19.

Because he had no documents, Xavier was later transferred to a police station and the agents, realizing that he had an arrest warrant, turned the case over to the Judicial Police.

The 28-year-old man reportedly killed the two family members in a fit of anger after his father refused to give him money to buy drugs.

The detainee will be present at the first judicial interrogation, in which the corresponding procedural enforcement measures will be applied.
