Historic and unprecedented: the Air Force military will have umbrellas

Many of the troops must have heard the old saying “civil rain does not wet the military”, but since nothing is as it was, the Portuguese Air Force (FAP) dared to break dictates and a whole history of tradition, authorizing the military to use an umbrella as part of your uniform. This is the first time this has happened in the Armed Forces.

In an internal FAP circular, to which the DN had access, it is noted that the Chief of Staff of the Air Force, General Joaquim Borrego, authorized by order of October 2 the “use of the umbrella”.

It adds that it is intended “to be used by the military of the Air Force, and can be acquired by itself, without the right to reimbursement, for the unit price of 12 euros, in units / organs with uniform section “.

It is also emphasized in this document that “this uniform may only be used to protect against the rain, when wearing the uniform No. 1 or No. 2, as long as the army is not included in ceremonies or graduations.

The military is alerted that the use of the umbrella does not prevent “compliance with the provisions contained in the Regulation of Military Continences and Honors, that is, in the continences and desertions of isolated soldiers.”
