The general director of Health, Graça Freitas, goes back to work on Monday, three weeks after being infected by covid-19 in a work meeting. About his state of mind during his illness, he says in an interview with the newspaper Sol, published this Saturday: “It is a feeling of vulnerability. For a few days, we do not know what will happen. This uncertainty is heavy.”

The 63-year-old doctor went through covid-19 without major problems and is ready for her return. “I feel a great relief,” says Graça Freitas, who was thought to be “a candidate for having a severe form of the disease”, because she had “a complicated history of illness”, and now has “a sense of gratitude for life, because nature has given him this gift “and” they have let it go well “

It is assumed as an exemplary patient, who has complied with all the recommendations of the National Health Service and drank a lot of water, despite the fact that the body does not ask for it, and leaves advice to all patients: it is convenient to have an oximeter at home to measure levels. oxygen in blood.

The general director of health admits that during these days she was afraid of contaminating her husband and confesses that she feels relieved that she had not infected anyone.

About the disease, he says he only had mild symptoms, but never had a fever. “The symptoms fluctuate, there is a day when you are well and another day not. The disease has that uncertainty of always being afraid of getting worse. It is a sensation that, from a psychological point of view, causes great anxiety ”, he confesses.

“There is no zero risk”

As for the contagion, he does not know exactly what happened. He was reportedly infected three weeks ago in a business meeting with a colleague who called two days later to say he had covid. In the match in question, everyone wore a mask and a distance of 1.5 meters, so Graça Freitas admits that the positive result of her test “surprised her a bit.”

“I don’t know exactly how it was, nobody knows,” he says, admitting the possibility that there was not the necessary ventilation in the room where the meeting took place. He was there for half an hour and did not leave with the feeling of having been at risk, but this, “is a virus that circulates very easily,” warns Graça Freitas, guaranteeing that he has always been “extremely careful from the beginning” with regard to the safety rules.

“I limited my office with tape, I started to eat alone in the office too, when I shared a lot with one person, but at a great distance,” says the CEO of DGS. He admits that despite all the care, all this confirms that “there is never zero risk.”

Less than a week before Christmas. Graça Freitas also takes the opportunity to alert everyone to “take all possible care”. He considers the measures decided by the Government in these days balanced and, on the need to protect the most fragile family members, presents his personal case: although he may have done so. There will already be some immunity with the 90-year-old mother away, without sharing meals.

Votes for 2021? That vaccination is effective and it is possible to leave home without thinking, whatever it is, he revealed.
