In the second free practice sessions of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, Formula 1 returned to ‘normality’ with the two Mercedes in the lead. Valtteri Bottas is in the mood to roll back his bad weekend and beat Lewis Hamilton by 0.203s. Despite the second position, Hamilton still had some trouble fitting the gears on the W11, but the problem was fixed with a steering wheel change.

The third fastest time was Max Verstappen, 0.990s off Bottas. Alex Albon placed the other Red Bull Racing in fourth place, two tenths of a second behind Verstappen. The session was also marked by the fire in Kimi Räikkönen’s Alfa Romeo, which caused a break in the session. CLICK HERE TO SEE MORE.

In the ‘second peloton’, Lando Norris was the best, in fifth position, with his McLaren. They were followed by Esteban Ocon’s Renault and Sergio Pérez’s Racing Point. The best Ferrari, Charles Leclerc, was eighth against another Renault. After the RS20 fuel pressure problems, Daniel Ricciardo has already managed to run in the TL2, setting the ninth fastest time, ahead of Lance Stroll, who closed the top ten with a time of 1: 37.560s, in 1.284. s from the front.

At the end of the grid and a week after leading a TL2, George Russell only managed to put his Williams ahead of Pietro Fittipaldi and Nicholas Latifi, his partner in Williams. The Williams Briton also ran into some issues, with its car fuming out the back and then getting ‘stuck’ in the garage with mechanics having to wait for the red light on the FW43 to go out, before they could work on it.
