The Prime Minister announced on Monday that he asked the President of the Assembly of the Republic to “disagree” with the Government’s proposal on the mandatory use of masks on public roads and the StayAway Covid application.
In an interview with TVI, António Costa explained that he made this request because he found that, unlike the part related to the application, the part related to the use of masks was agreed – “curiously for me”, he commented – and had been the subject of a diploma. specific to the PSD. “If it is consensual, let us legislate now and it is very useful for the Assembly of the Republic to hold all the hearings on the application,” he added.
On Saturday, the Prime Minister had already confessed that he considered wearing the mask to be more restrictive of freedom than having the application.
The idea of installing the application in the workplace or school, as well as in the Armed Forces, Security Forces and public administration, it was launched by António Costa on October 14, the day the Government announced a new transition to a state of calamity.
Faced with this announcement, the National Data Protection Commission (CNPD) said that making the use of an application mandatory to warn of possible COVID-19 infections “raises serious doubts regarding the privacy of citizens.”
StayAway Covid has more than two million users and 323 entered user codes that tested positive for the new coronavirus, according to data published this Monday by the Institute of Computer Systems and Engineering, Technology and Science (INESC TEC). ), the Porto engineering institute responsible for its development.
