The Government said this Friday that the number of modification proposals presented by the parties to the State Budget for 2021 (OE2021) – more than 1,500 – is “very high and misaligned.” The Secretary of State for Parliamentary Affairs, Duarte Cordeiro, insisted that “it is in the national interest to make the OE2021 viable” and accused the Social Democrats of delivering “disrespectful and irresponsible” proposals.

“We have now entered the specialty process and the parties together have submitted more than 1,400 change proposals. This set of changes is, in our opinion, very high and out of place, especially at the moment that we are living, “said Duarte Cordeiro, on the first day of discussion of the proposals for modification of OE2021, in the specialty (point ready).

Duarte Cordeiro stressed that the Government will once again “show availability to accommodate many of the proposals presented”, especially those that “reinforce the lines of this Budget: fight the pandemic, protect people, families and workers, quickly recover the economy and socially the country”. .

The Secretary of State for Parliamentary Affairs pointed a finger at the Social Democratic Party (PSD), for “inconsistencies.” This is because the Social Democratic leader said that the current OE2021 “seeks to distribute what it has and what it does not have”, accusing the Government of being “unreasonable and irresponsible”, but then presents 91 proposals for changes that imply a high economic impact . said.

“Well, Frei Tomás preaches, look at what he says, don’t look at what he does,” joked Duarte Cordeiro. “In politics coherence and responsibility are worth a lot and the PSD has not been imposed recently,” he added, and said that the estimate of the Ministry of Finance is that the proposals of the Social Democrats “cost 700 million euros. ”.

He also accused the PSD of pretending that “it is not here, when the country needs it most.” “It seems that he took the first opportunity to disappear from the scene, he seems indifferent to what is happening, to the conditions that the country has to face this crisis,” he shot.

Regarding the Government’s proposal for OE2021, he highlighted the 23% increase in public investment in “strategic and priority sectors, such as Health”, the allocation of 900 million euros to business support programs to guarantee the maintenance of employment and for recovery, the extension of the bank loan moratorium and the creation of new lines of credit.
