Government backs down and allows fairs and markets authorized by municipalities

This withdrawal of the Government comes after the Association of Fairkeepers of the Lisbon District, among others, considered that the sector he was “once again being discriminated against.”

After this change, a source from the Council of Ministers confirmed to the Lusa agency that fairs and raised markets may continue to operate in 121 municipalities subject to more restrictive measures to contain the COVID-19-19 if they have authorization to respective municipalities. The same source also said that A resolution will soon be published in the Diário da República, sending more information to the Prime Minister’s office.

This afternoon mayors Eduardo Vítor Rodrigues and Fernando Medina, presidents of areas metropolitan areas of Porto and Lisbon, respectively, requested clarification from AddressGeneral Health (DGS) on the prohibition of fairs, preferring that the case be dealt with at the municipal level.

It should be remembered that, the extraordinary Council of Ministers agreed on Saturday that 121 municipalities will be covered, as of Wednesday (4), by the civic duty of home collection, by the new hours in commercial and catering establishments, and the telecommuting becomes mandatory, except for “motivated opposition” by the worker, due to the COVID-19-19.

The restaurants in these 121 municipalities must close until 10:30 p.m. and all commercial establishments must close, in general, at 10 p.m.

Also in these territories, which represent 70% of the resident population, events and celebrations are limited to five people, except in cases where the participants belong to the same household.

The covered counties have more than 240 cases of infection with the virus COVID-19-19 per 100 thousand inhabitants in the last 14 days and this will be the criterion that will serve to to update the list of municipalities subject to restrictive measures every 15 days, following a principle defined by the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control. There is a exception for outbreaks located in low-density counties.
