Elected coach of the year for the second time in his career.

The announcement of the winners of the 33rd edition of the Golden Dragons confirmed Sérgio Conceição as the winner of the Coach of the Year award. The victory of the double last season, after recovering from a seven-point deficit in relation to Benfica, and after a particularly difficult period due to the covid-19 pandemic, places the 45-year-old coach as the first to win twice the award in football.

So far only one coach has more than one figure in this category at home. This is Ljubomir Obradovic, in handball, who did not win this Dragon twice, but three: in 2010, in 2013 and in 2014.

Sérgio Conceição’s first Coach of the Year Golden Dragon, who in 1997 had already achieved one as Footballer of the Year, also appeared after winning a title. More specifically, 2017/18. The Ribeira de Frades coach had just interrupted a four-season cycle at FC Porto without winning the championship, especially in a context complicated by the club’s difficulty in strengthening itself. Now the obstacles were different, but the result turned out to be the same. This award is another personal feat. After all, Blue and White history is full of victorious coaches in football who did not have this honor, such as Artur Jorge, the first to receive this award, in 1986, or José Mourinho.
