A 33-year-old man, a Chinese national, escaped with minor injuries from a car accident on Thursday night, at the access to the road in Braga.

The driver was heading north-south when he lost control of the IVECO freight van and ended up crashing into the central A3 separators on the toll road.

The truck ended up scraping the spacers for a few meters, eventually overturning in a difficult position for rescuers, who took about four hours to remove the driver.

Trapped by the legs, the man was always accompanied by the VMER medical team in Barcelos, while elements of the Sapadores de Braga Firefighters Company cut the truck to remove the victim without causing injury.

The team that was initially carrying out the work ended up being replaced by another, around 9:30 p.m., with elements of the night shift, which entered service at 8:00 p.m. The alert was given at 19:07.

And there were few injuries, when, shortly after 10:30 p.m., he finally managed to get out of the vehicle to be stabilized by firefighters and transported to the local hospital.

He ended up suffering foot and leg injuries, but nothing serious, and should be discharged in the next few hours. A source from the rescuers explained that “the position of the vehicle” made the entire operation difficult.

The van was transporting food to Aveiro when it suffered the accident. Another truck from the same company ended up arriving at the scene of the accident to move the load.

Despite the work on the road, there was no queue registration, with the left-most lane completely cleared for road traffic.

The GNR Transit Brigade controlled operations while BRISA elements reported and also assisted in the accident. They were the first to arrive at the site.
