A document from the GNR, to which the JN had access, begins by realizing that, “according to news received in this Guard, there is the possibility of reprisals against the GNR military”, after the incidents that occurred in the parking lot. from a supermarket in Fernão Ferro, Seixal, which resulted in one death and three injuries.

“The news in question refers to three white van-type vehicles with several armed individuals,” reports the GNR document, noting that the same men “were concentrated in the vicinity of the home of the individual who died in the incident, and that they were absent. to an uncertain party. “

The GNR operational commander sent a message to “the entire apparatus” of these events.

GNR’s alert status is due to the death of Miguel Abreu, a 43-year-old resident of Sesimbra, who was wanted by GNR. This man had been sentenced to prison in Setúbal for crimes of robbery. But he was on the move and, after a series of other robberies, in Benavente and Coruche, the military from the Criminal Investigation Nucleus (NIC) of the latter municipality collected information that pointed to Miguel Abreu himself and realized that a warrant for arrest. of detention.

As early as Tuesday, a NIC soldier and another guard were conducting a surveillance operation on the suspect and decided to comply with the order. But when they identified themselves, Miguel Abreu took out a gun and shot them, generating an exchange of shots. One guard was left with a bullet in his bulletproof vest and was hit by another in the abdomen. The second was shot in the leg.

The suspect was fatally shot in the windpipe while the woman accompanying him was shot and sustained minor leg injuries.
