GNR detains a woman sick with Covid-19 in Lamego. Confinement violated and was in a tent – Portugal

The Republican National Guard (GNR) arrested a 79-year-old woman in Lamego, Viseu district, for violating the obligation of mandatory detention, the security force announced on Thursday.

“The GNR Territorial Command of Viseu, through the Lamego Territorial Post, detained, on November 11, a 79-year-old woman for violation of the duty of mandatory internment, in the town of Lamego,” says the Guard, in a statement sent to the Lusa agency.

According to the press release, “the detainee, already referred for failure to comply with the mandatory confinement in the home decreed by the Public Health Authority for covid-19”, since she is a citizen infected by the new coronavirus.

The woman, the statement clarifies, “was intercepted upon returning to her home, after having gone to a commercial establishment.” The return home took place “after all security conditions had been met” and “accompanied by the military.”

GNR clarifies that the detainee, for having committed a crime of disobedience, was constituted a defendant, and the facts were referred to the Lamego Judicial Court.

The covid-19 pandemic caused at least 1,294,539 deaths in more than 52.7 million cases of infection worldwide, according to a report by the French agency AFP.

In Portugal, 3,250 people died from 204,664 confirmed cases of infection, according to the most recent bulletin from the Directorate General of Health.

The disease is transmitted by a new coronavirus detected at the end of December 2019 in Wuhan, a city in central China.
