The Portuguese cyclist maintains first place in the general classification after the seventh stage of the Tour of Italy.
The Portuguese João Almeida (Deceuninck-Quick Step) reinforced this Friday the leadership of the Volta a Itália by bicycle, after the seventh stage, won by sprint by the French Arnaud Démare (Groupama-FDJ), who won for the third time this 103 2nd edition.
Démare, who had already won the fourth and sixth rounds, raised his arms for the second day in a row, after 143 kilometers, between Matera and Brindisi, completed in 2: 47.28, ahead of second-placed Slovak Peter Sagan (BORA-hansgrohe), and Australian Michael Matthews (Sunweb), third.
The general classification is still led by the Portuguese cyclist, who benefited from a “cut” at the end to reinforce the leadership, with the Dutch Wilco Kelderman (Sunweb), now in second place, 48 seconds behind, while the Spanish Pello Bilbao ( Astana)) fell to third place at 49.
On Saturday, the eighth stage connects Giovinazzo with Vieste, more than 200 kilometers, with two mountain counts, a second and a fourth category, and a final circuit.
