A group of tobacco thieves, suspected of several robberies in recent weeks throughout the Setúbal district, managed to carry out a new robbery yesterday morning in Barreiro and escape a police shooting after destroying a PSP patrol.The alert came at 4:35 am, reporting a robbery at a bakery on Rua Henrique Galvão. But as soon as the patrol arrived, the group fled in a previously stolen Peugeot Boxer van. The officers chased the group and fired warning shots. But when they passed through the Vila Chã area, the assailants stopped and, conversely, rammed the patrol car, which was soon inoperative. The officers were not injured, but the group escaped. The tobacco machine was later recovered by GNR in Santo António da Charneca. Due to the shooting, although there was no information that someone had been shot, the case was reported by the PSP itself to the PJ and the IGAI.
