Isabel dos Santos, daughter of former Angolan president José Eduardo dos Santos, married to Sindika Dokolo, thanked, on behalf of the family, “the support” they have been given, “crucial” to help cope with this pain. “It has been very difficult to accept this unexpected loss and your words fill our hearts,” acknowledged the businesswoman.

Sindika Dokolo, businessman and art collector, has been married since 2002 to Isabel dos Santos, from whom he had four children.

He was born in 1972 in the former Zaire, now the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), the son of the banker Augustin Dokolo Sanu and his second wife, the Danish Hanne Taabbel.

A critic of President Joseph Kabila’s nearly 20 years in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Sindika Dokolo spent nearly five years in exile due to lawsuits brought against him in Kinshasa, and returned to the country in May 2019, months after the presidential victory of the opponent Felix Tshisekedi. in December 2018.

The couple is suspected of having damaged the Angolan state in millions of dollars and was the target of seizure of assets and stakes in companies in December 2019, as determined by the Luanda Provincial Court.

Both have always denied the charges.

Sindika Dokolo died while practicing a form of diving, known locally as ‘al-hivari’, which does not use breathing equipment and is based on the exclusive use of air in the lungs.

Meanwhile, Dubai police said they did not suspect any “criminal act” in the businessman’s death.
