António Lacerda Sales says that between May 1 and 10 “more tests were conducted at Covid-19 than throughout March.”

At the regular press conference of the General Directorate of Health (DGS), the Secretary of State for Health stated that “since March 1, around 547 thousand diagnostic tests for Covid-19 have been carried out in Portugal”, being that in the month of May “the average was more than 13,100 tests per day and this data will still be updated.”

Lacerda Sales emphasized that “these indicators are important because the more we test, the more we know about the epidemiological reality of the country”, and stressed that “there is still no time for the balance” given that Portugal abandoned the closure just a week ago.

“It is time to continue on this path. This is not a short and fast race. It is a long marathon and sometimes with obstacles. We feel that there is a very large civic and social awareness and we hope that this balance can be positive if this awareness is maintained as we all hope, “he said.

The Secretary of State for Health also took the opportunity to announce that personal protective equipment is expected to continue arriving, both from the external and internal markets.

“Two million surgical masks and 1.7 million ffp2 and ffp3 respirators are expected to arrive this week, among other important materials,” said Lacerda Sales.
