Octávio Ribeiro decided to put an end to the process, since, according to SOL, he considers that this process was a professional dispute, and it was not justified to resort to the assets that Araújo may have left to his heirs.

The director of Correio da Manhã, Octávio Ribeiro, decided to waive the compensation to which the Lisbon court of first instance sentenced João Araújo, José Sócrates’s former lawyer, who died last July. It is recalled that Araújo had a dispute with the newspaper and its journalists, and had been sentenced in 2019 to pay 15,000 euros to Otávio Ribeiro. The decision was pending after Araújo appealed to the Lisbon Court of Appeals. But now, after the death of João Araújo, and when the necessary qualification of heirs was necessary, Octávio Ribeiro decided to put an end to the process, since, according to SOL, he considers that this process was a professional dispute, and there was no justification for resorting to the assets that Araújo finally left to his heirs.

SOL knows that Correio da Manhã and CMTV journalist Tânia Laranjo must follow the example of their director and also waive the compensation that the court of first instance also recognized as a right on the case. Araújo would have to pay the journalist a compensation of eight thousand euros, after being convicted of the crimes of defamation and aggravated injuries (sentence confirmed at the end of last year by the Lisbon Court of Appeal).
