Satires on the situation in the Amazon, the refugee crisis in Europe, the relationship between China and the United States. Putin, Trump, Bolsonaro and many other recognized and controversial names on the international political scene. These were some of the inspirations that stood out in the 15th edition of World Press Cartoon, the event that took place on Sunday, September 20 at the Cultural and Congress Center of Caldas da Rainha.

Annually it celebrates and distinguishes the best of humorous design published in the international press, always establishing a great winner: in 2020, it was the cartoon of Boris Johnson, British Prime Minister, the piece that won the Grand Prize. It is signed by the German Frank Hoppmann and was published in the online newspaper “Eulenspiegel” in 2019.

The Grand Prize belongs to the category “Caricatures”, in which a drawing by Portuguese authors also stood out: in third place, with a photo of Christine Lagarde, president of the European Central Bank, was the work of Pedro Silva, published on the Dutch platform Cartoon Movement.

Still within this theme, the second was the drawing of the Mexican Darío, in which a caricature of the Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro is seen, shaving his chest that, instead of containing hair, has a forest, alluding to the situation in the Amazon. .

There are two more categories: Humor Design and Editorial Caricature. In the first we can see figures such as Russian President Vladimir Putin, the President of the United States, Donald Trump, or the leader of North Korea, while in the second reference is made to the “yellow vests”, as opposed to the “yellow vests”. vests “. rescue “, alluding to the refugee crisis.

The World Press Cartoon was evaluated by more than a thousand drawings, published in a total of 72 countries. The jury was made up of António Antunes, director of the show and Portuguese cartoonist, Sabine Glaubitz, the German journalist and cartoonist Jakub Wiejacki, from Poland, Jean-Michel Renault, from France, and Osmani Simanca, from Cuba.

The World Press Cartoon, which shows satirical drawings published in the international press, referring to the most urgent events of today, will be exhibited at the Caldas da Rainha Cultural and Congress Center, with free admission, from November 15 .
