French officials reveal alarming numbers of the pandemic

The number of new cases is the highest to date.

France recorded 418 deaths in the past 24 hours, one of the highest figures in this second wave, and 52,518 confirmed cases of the new coronavirus, the highest to date, health officials said.

Officials in this area revealed a new death toll on Monday, one of the highest since the spread of the virus in October, only surpassed on Tuesday by more than 500 recorded fatalities, although half include deaths in nursing homes, accumulated to throughout the week.

The total number of deaths in the country is already 37,435.

The infections exceed the 46,290 announced on Sunday. Since the beginning of the pandemic, 1,466,433 infections have been registered in the country, and the rate of positive tests for the third consecutive day exceeded 20%, reaching 20.6%.

In the last seven days, 17,683 new hospital admissions were registered, with 2,678 people referred to critical care units in serious condition.

Last Friday, the Government decreed a minimum one-month lockdown, after considering the vast majority of districts (departments) in the country vulnerable to the virus.
