France has registered 8,975 new cases of covid-19 in the last 24 hours, an absolute record since the pandemic began in the country, French authorities revealed today.

At the same time, the number of hospitalizations has also increased again, with 4,671 people hospitalized and 473 of these patients are in intensive care (46 more than the previous day).

In the last week alone, there were 1,628 hospitalizations due to the disease.

In total, since the beginning of the pandemic, more than 300 thousand cases have been identified and the rate of positive tests continues to increase, now it is 4.5%.

In the past 24 hours, there were 21 deaths at the hospital, with a total of 30,706 deaths since the pandemic began.

Outbreaks of contamination in the country also continue to rise, with 53 new outbreaks identified since Thursday, and now 444 outbreaks of contamination to be investigated across France. These pollution outbreaks do not include nursing homes.

The covid-19 pandemic has already claimed at least 869,718 deaths and infected more than 26.3 million people in 196 countries and territories, according to a report by the French agency AFP.

The disease is transmitted by a new coronavirus detected in late December in Wuhan, a city in central China.

After Europe succeeded China as the center of the pandemic in February, the American continent is now the one with the most confirmed cases and the most deaths.
