The new president of the PSD Braga City Council, João Granja, elected today with the vote of 159 militants, is considering extending the Together for Braga Coalition (PSD / CDS / PPM) in power since 2013 to the Liberal Initiative and Alliance parties. ahead of the municipal elections of 2021.

“We did not intend to speak with Chega, either because we do not know about his activity in Braga, or because we do not agree with his political position,” he told O MINHO.

In the elections that took place today at the party headquarters, in which 472 militants were able to vote, there were also seven blank votes and three invalid votes. 161 voters voted for the Bureau of the Section Assembly, headed by Américo Afonso, with seven blank votes and one null.

Granja, a former bank director who had presided over the agency for six years, plans to “unite the party” around the re-election for a third term of the current mayor, Ricardo Río.

“This list is unity, so as not to let the energies of the militants be lost in sterile disputes,” Granja told O MINHO, adding that he will work to increase results not only in the Chamber, but also in the Municipal Assembly and in the parishes.

João Granja, bank manager who was already a deputy in parliament and leader of the council, and currently leader of the Social Democrats in the Assembly, points out that, in principle, the alliance with the CDS and the PPM will be maintained, with an agreement to formalize the since January.

For the term of two years, he promises to open the party to the society of Braga and its youth, with an eye on social and environmental issues.

The Political Commission has as number two the director of Agere, Rui Morais, followed by the jurist João Marques.

The first subscriber to the list was Mayor Ricardo Rio, support that also comes from the two militant councilors, Olga Pereira and João Rodrigues, as well as from all the affiliated Board presidents.
