Stone, who has advised Trump for years and worked until August 2015 on his election campaign, was arrested by the FBI in January 2019 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

According to the United States Attorney General, Stone acted as a link between the 2016 Trump campaign and the WikiLeaks platform, which published stolen emails from the Democratic National Committee, damaging to the campaign of the presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.

Stone was convicted as part of special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation of the Russian conspiracy, which exonerated Trump of conspiring with Russia during the 2016 election process, but cast doubt on the president’s ability to obstruct the investigation.
