Defense aimed at challenging the questioning of a witness related to Nélio Lucas and Doyen

In the trial of the Football Leaks case, suspended for 14 days, due to the confirmation of a test with a positive result for the new coronavirus of a relative of one of the judges of the group, there was still time for the presentation of a request to defend the accused Aníbal Pinto, still before the witness Pedro Henriques, lawyer and former collaborator of Nélio Lucas in the investment fund Doyen, began to testify to challenge the investigation.

In question, according to the lawyer João Pereira dos Santos, there was an alleged conversation between Pedro Henriques and Aníbal Pinto’s legal representative in another case, João Azevedo, to whom it would have been transmitted “clearly and aggressively what happened to him in two Sometimes Aníbal Pinto happens to you “. The jury decided to reject the request and opened the way for the witness to be questioned by the Public Ministry.

Later, Pedro Henriques began by explaining his connection to the facts of the process, which culminated in the alleged attempt to extort Doyen by the defendants Rui Pinto and Aníbal Pinto.

The former employee of the investment fund recalled that in 2015 “confidential documentation of Doyen began to appear in Football Leaks” and that Nélio Lucas was receiving emails from Artem Lobuzov -who would later become Rui Pinto- in which he would request “a amount between 500 thousand and one million euros ”for the closing of publications on the Internet.

Nélio Lucas told me: “You may not believe it, but [Artem Lobuzov] He said that this has to be taken care of by lawyers and indicated Aníbal Pinto. “Then I was able to understand the reasons,” said Pedro Henriques, referring to the conversation at the meeting with Nélio Lucas and Aníbal Pinto in the A5 highway service area, in Oeiras, in which the defendant said that “he had been a lawyer for a person who had withdrawn money from the Cayman Islands”: “There was this connection,” he said.

Rui Pinto, 32, is responsible for a total of 90 crimes: 68 for improper access, 14 for violation of correspondence, six for illegitimate access, directed at entities such as Sporting, Doyen, PLMJ law firm, Portuguese Football Federation ( FPF) and the Attorney General’s Office (PGR), and also for computer sabotage of the Sporting SAD and for extortion, in the tempted manner. This last crime concerns Doyen and was also the one that motivated the pronunciation of the lawyer Aníbal Pinto.

The creator of Football Leaks has been free since August 7, “for his collaboration” with the Judicial Police (PJ) and his “critical sense”, but it is, for security reasons, part of the witness protection program in a place undisclosed and under police protection.
