Fernando Jorge Marques said that the people were evacuated this afternoon from the towns of Pisureira and Rouco due to the threat of the flames.
According to the mayor of Oleiros, the rest of the towns of this municipality in the Castelo Branco district “are, in general, defended”, although the entire slope that overlooks the Zêzere river continues to be “very problematic.”
The mayor of the municipality also stressed that the industrial zone of the municipality escaped unscathed from the flames, which were “10 meters away”, praising the work of the operatives on the ground and the track machines.
Fernando Jorge Marques also said that there were “very strong” revivals in Sarnadas de São Simão and Isna, but that due to communication failures he cannot know the state of the situation.
The fire that broke out in Proença-a-Nova on Sunday spread to the municipalities of Castelo Branco and Oleiros, the latter being the focus of Civil Protection.
The fire, which burned almost 2,300 hectares in less than three hours at the beginning, has a perimeter of more than 55 kilometers, said today the operational commander of the Southern District District Group, Luís Belo Costa, noting that during the night and the tomorrow it was impossible to make direct fire.
According to the page of the National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority, at 6:40 p.m. the fire was being fought by 1,055 elements, supported by 342 vehicles and 14 air resources.
