A forest fire near the Quinta da Fonte social district, in Apelação, Loures, prompted firefighters to call the PSP. Several firearms, of prohibited caliber, and even a grenade, were found buried in the plowed earth after fighting the flames.To what CM found out, the fire alert was given in mid-afternoon on Thursday. An area of bushes, located about 200 meters from a block of buildings in the Quinta da Fonte neighborhood, began to burn with great intensity. A fire department of several corporations of the Loures municipality, assisted by several vehicles, were summoned to fight the fire.
It was possible to prevent it from reaching homes and it was during the later phase that the weapons were discovered. Firefighters plowed the burned earth to avoid rekindling when they unearthed several weapons. A carbine, a sawed-off shotgun and a pistol (apparent caliber 9mm) were discovered amid the burning bush and overturned earth. Next to it was a bag with a smoke grenade and several disassembled gun barrels.
The PSP was summoned immediately and a security perimeter was created for the action of specialized agents of the Special Police Unit. All the weapons were taken to the coroner and now the Public Ministry must order the opening of an investigation to find out how the weapons were hidden there.
