These events are normal and occur frequently. However, there are now more cameras everywhere. As such, this morning a fireball was shot into the sky in southern Portugal. This light is an incandescent meteorite that passes through the Earth’s atmosphere. This asteroid was detected by the sensors of the SMART project, of the Andalusian Institute of Astrophysics.

The event, due to its characteristics, can be enjoyed with the naked eye, taking into account the bright light in the dark dawn.

According to the Spanish information agency EFE, this celestial body traveled through the southwest of the Iberian Peninsula. It was accompanied by a Spanish scientific project that detected the crossing at a speed of about 227 thousand kilometers per hour.

At 3:49 hours this Monday, the sensors of the SMART project, the Andalusian Institute of Astrophysics (IAA-CSIC), the astronomical observatories of Calar Alto (Almería), Seville and La Hita (Toledo), followed the track and trajectory of the meteorite that followed a trajectory towards the west, becoming extinct at an altitude of about 60 kilometers over southern Portugal.

Several publications reported the passage of this meteorite.

As mentioned, the fireball is the result of the collision between the rock at high speed and the Earth's atmosphere. The friction caused the rock to turn incandescent, thus generating a possible glare to follow with the naked eye at an altitude of about 132 kilometers west of Andalusia.
