Associated with this depression, “sea waves are expected to increase on the north coast and in Porto Santo, with waves from the northwest and a significant height of 4 to 5 meters, passing to northeast waves with 5 to 6 meters on the 8th. “.

In addition, periods of rain or downpours, which are sometimes intense, are accompanied by thunderstorms. On the 8th, meteorologists say, “there is also the possibility of snowfall in the highest points of the island of Madeira until dawn”.

In mainland Portugal, the effects of this depression on the continent will be felt mainly in the south between the afternoon of Thursday (7) and Friday (9), with an expected increase in the intensity of the wind, which is sometimes strong. (up to 45 km / h) from the northeast, especially in the Sierra de Monchique and along the coast, where gusts can reach 60/70 km / h.

The IPMA also predicts the occurrence of rainfall in the southern region, extending to the northern and central regions only on the 9th, with the possibility of snowfalls above 700/900 meters.
