Feirense-Chaves: the health delegate will have heard of a dinner the day before

The same day that four members of the Chaves were found to be infected, the regional health delegate learned of a squad dinner the day before and did not want to risk it.

The match between Feirense and Chaves, on the first day of the II League, was postponed on Friday by the health authorities when the teams were already on the field, ready for the start of the duel and with the warm-up done. This was the same day that four positive cases of covid-19 were known in the Flavian squad (players Samu and Guzzo and deputies Pedro Machado and Tiago Castro).

The League says that all procedures disclosed in the Soccer Recovery Plan have been followed. The indication for cancellation, O GOGO learned, was given by Graça Freitas, General Director of Health.

The day began with the news that four members of the Chaves squad were infected, although asymptomatic, which led the regional health delegate to order the isolation of the people in question, in accordance with current regulations.

However, that same delegate later learned of the existence of a dinner for the Flavian players the day before and, as a result, communicated his suspicions to Graça Freitas to define what to do. And the general director of Health decided that the game could not be played, despite the protocol, which says that infected players are treated as injured.

In the midst of all this, there will have been errors in the sending of emails, which delayed the postponement of the game. At 7:40 p.m., the regional health delegate would have made a mistake with the email address of the transmontano club and the League demanded that there be an official communication from the health authorities, hence the players have been waiting for the decision for about 25 minutes. Shortly before 8.30 pm the email arrived and, yes, the referee João Gonçalves canceled the meeting.

It is important to clarify that the General Directorate of Health classified soccer as a medium risk activity and that the teams of the II League are only obliged to carry out tests in two of two games. The exception is the first round of the championship, in which all teams must undergo selection tests.

Another important fact is that, according to the protocol, the game can be played with a minimum number of seven players, including a goalkeeper and a captain.

The League, and despite the conditions for the performance of the game, according to the Recovery Plan and in compliance with Law 3 of the Laws of the Game, now undertakes to investigate the reasons that led to the existence of these cases in the squad . Chaves, “the League wrote in a statement. It remains to be seen if Chaves incurs a penalty and if, with two games canceled (Ac. Viseu-Académica was also postponed), the start of the tests and their stability will not be questioned.

According to the DGS, the identification of a positive case does not, by itself, make collective isolation of the equipment mandatory, although, according to O GOGO, the Trás-os-Montes health authorities have advised Chaves to quarantine, information that the club says it has not received it.
