The two men and a woman who were arrested today on suspicion of kidnapping a taxi driver, near the intersection of Highway 25 (A25) with A1, were in preventive detention, reported the Republican National Guard (GNR).

“After being present in the Albergaria Court of Justice, the three detainees were subjected to the coercion of preventive detention,” the GNR announced in a statement.

GNR highlighted that the 2-year-old boy who was with the detainees “was handed over to a relative [sinalizada] for the Commission for the Protection of Children and Young People ”.

GNR today arrested two men and a woman for alleged kidnapping by a taxi driver at the A25 and A1 junctions in the Aveiro area.

In a statement, the GNR said that soldiers from the Traffic Detachment detained this morning, in flagrante delicto, two 19 and 23-year-old men and a 20-year-old woman for the crime of kidnapping, coercion and illegal possession of a firearm.

“Following an alert, at 06:40, that a taxi was circulating on the A25 at high speed, coming from the Castelo Branco area, whose driver would be under threat of a firearm and being coerced into taking three citizens to the area from Braga, soldiers from the Guard detected the suspicious vehicle in the Viseu area, ”the note reads.

The GNR soldiers followed the vehicle in question, which ended up being intercepted near node A25 with A1, in the Aveiro area.

“The 37-year-old victim was not injured,” the GNR added.

Following the interception of the vehicle, a 12-gauge shotgun and a knife were seized.

Given the traces of the crime, the situation was reported to the Judicial Police.
