According to The Verge, Facebook will invest in the world of games. Mark Zuckerberg's company will launch a gaming app that will primarily focus on the streaming community. In this way, the tool will compete directly with other platforms of this type, such as Twitch and YouTube.

The new Facebook application is aimed at the mobile device market. In addition to the broadcast, it will also highlight casual games that people can play online, such as Words with Friends, says the New York Times.

The launch of the new function is scheduled for tomorrow, April 20 and, in a first phase, it will be available only for the Android system. However, according to the information, the app will arrive on iOS as soon as Apple approves it.

In an interview with the New York Times, Fidji Simo, responsible for the Facebook application, says that:

Investing in games in general has become a priority for us, because we see them as a form of entertainment that really connects people. It is an entertainment that is not only a form of passive consumption, but is interactive and unites people.

It's no surprise that Simo has made these remarks, as Facebook Gaming has grown, posting a 210% increase between December 2018 and December 2019, according to a report by streaming software company StreamElements.

According to StreamElements' Doron Nir, in a statement to The Verge:

Facebook Gaming has made incredible progress by increasing its global presence and strategic talent acquisitions to increase its market share in the live streaming space.

To strengthen the strategy, Facebook has already established alliances with celebrities, such as former UFC champion Ronda Rousey.
