The final report of the Judicial Police on the Cashball case reveals that businessman Paulo Silva received a sum of 30,000 euros from the “Correio da Manhã” to give that newspaper an interview on the case. The document, to which Expresso had access, indicates that in the telephone interceptions, which are in one of the 11 incorporated into the process, “it can be verified that Paulo Silva has established contacts with journalists to give an interview on the facts investigated in the that a compensation will have been stipulated for the amount of 30 thousand euros (20 thousand for talking about football and 10 thousand for talking about handball) ”.

The Judicial Branch adds that “although Paulo Silva was notified of the confidentiality of the process, he granted an interview to the newspaper” Correio da Manhã “in which he revealed all the content of the object of investigation in this case, which corroborates the content of the telephone interceptions described above ”.

Otávio Ribeiro, director of the newspaper, says that “Correio da Manhã does not pay, nor does it pay for interviews or statements.” And that the statement is “crazy, it’s surreal.” And he is sure: “The budget of the Correio da Manhã did not leave 30 thousand, three thousand or even three cents” to pay for any interview.
