Trial sessions in a court operate according to certain rites and formalities. It is traditional, for example, for the panel of judges to arrive late and be the last to enter. While they waited, lawyers and the accused-lawyer talked animatedly about the news of Covid 19 when the first bruaá occurred in the room: “Vieira removed Costa from the honor commission.” Aníbal Pinto, the lawyer prosecuted for the crime of attempted extortion, did not miss the opportunity: “Will you compensate Costa. Hahaha! And when he met Rui Pinto, he greeted him with all the enthusiasm he could. the rules of social distance allow it.

The good humor began with the testimony of the main witness of the third session of the trial, whose main defendant in the process was: Rui Pinto, who in this process emerges as a hacker who tried to extort money and entered Doyen’s computer systems, PLMJ and Deportivo.

José Amador, the PJ inspector who investigated the case from the beginning, explained how he came to the identity of Rui Pinto and caused some astonishment in the courtroom when he admitted having asked Doyen’s lawyer for help to intercede with the Russian authorities to identify the IP. of the email that the company had received with the extortion attempt. “I had never heard of something like this, I hope the PJ is not at the service of Doyen,” he said on Rua Aníbal Pinto.

Inspector Amador, who has more than twenty years of experience, explained that when he received the complaint from Nélio Lucas, Doyen’s leader, he recalled another similar case that also involved Anibal Pinto. A case of embezzlement of funds from a bank that resulted in the withdrawal of a complaint by the bank. “They were the same stories.”

According to the police, the email used for the extortion attempt was linked to an IP located in Russia and, “the requests take a long time”, the PJ will have decided to ask Pedro Henriques, Doyen’s lawyer for help to intercede with the Russian authorities . sense of identifying it. “Is this usual?” Asked the judge. “No,” admitted the inspector. Then the session was interrupted and the prosecutor who was conducting the interrogation did not return to the matter.

At the end of the session, Anibal Pinto left the opportunity to return to the subject.

“We did not record because the MP did not authorize, unfortunately”

After the interruption, José Amador described how the PJ mounted an operation at a service station to monitor the meeting between Anibal Pinto, Rui Pinto’s lawyer, and Pedro Henriques, Doyen’s lawyer. The inspector said that the meeting was monitored but not filmed because “the Public Ministry, unfortunately, did not authorize it.”

It was after that meeting that the PJ will have realized that the duo Aníbal and Rui Pinto were involved in the case.

Despite having renounced the alleged extortion attempt – Rui Pinto asked for a “generous donation” between 500 thousand and one million euros – the case continued but José Amador did not have time to explain how he came to arrest him in Hungary.

The session was interrupted and will resume on Monday with the hearing of the same witness.
