The lawyer Aníbal Pinto, accused of co-authorship of Doyen’s extortion attempt, together with Rui Pinto, focused his first statements on the trial that started this Friday on the omission of emails and SMS by the Public Ministry.
According to Aníbal Pinto, the prosecution used several SMS and emails between them and the lawyer Pedro Henriques, representative of Nélio Lucas (who was Doyen’s president in 2015), but omitted others, leading the defendants to accuse the MP of only say “half truth” at various points.
Aníbal Pinto maintained that he only made himself available to help Rui Pinto if what was at stake was a service contract with Doyen.
“When I saw someone negotiating between half a million and a million euros, I immediately saw that it was silly. When negotiating, you ask for a number. Either it’s half a million or it’s a million!” He said.
Before the group of judges Aníbal Pinto, he argued that he was only available to represent Rui Pinto in a negotiation of a service provision contract. “I am available to give legal advice, but it is not to help commit crimes,” he reiterated.
Aníbal Pinto accused the MP of not including several communications, in order to sustain his criminal involvement, specifically in points 125 and 126 of the indictment. “This is documented in the email I gave the MP and that, I don’t know why, is not part of the process,” he criticized.
He also reaffirmed that his involvement in the process was the result of pressure from Nélio Lucas’s lawyer to meet near Lisbon, in a meeting that would be recorded by the PJ.
Also regarding these conversations, Aníbal Pinto defended before the court that the Public Prosecutor’s Office omitted several communications that, according to him, show that it was the part of Nélio Lucas and Pedro Henriques that instigated him to participate in the negotiations that would lead him to be accused of attempted extortion. to Doyen.
