A man, who had an arrest warrant, died on Tuesday and a woman was injured after a shooting in the municipality of Seixal, after being approached by two GNR soldiers, who also suffered injuries, police announced.

In a statement, GNR explained that, after the execution of an arrest warrant, two soldiers from that police force were involved in a shooting in the town of Fernão Ferro, Seixal, in the Setúbal district.

“The military guard approached the suspect, who was accompanied by a woman, who reacted and fired at one of the soldiers, followed by an exchange of gunfire,” the note says.

“From this situation, both the military and the woman were injured and medical assistance is being provided,” you can read.

The GNR also revealed that the suspect eventually died at the scene and that a man was still in custody for resistance and duress.

According to the GNR, the Judicial Police were called to the scene.

According to the website of the National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority, the alert for the incident occurred at 6:22 p.m. and, at around 8:15 p.m., there were 36 operational personnel supported by 19 vehicles.
