When comparing the data published by the General Directorate of Health (DGS) between this Monday and the previous one, it is possible to conclude that 24 municipalities saw the number of new cases per 100,000 inhabitants in two weeks more than doubled.

Vimioso (Bragança district), Penamacor (Castelo Branco), Castelo de Vide, Alter do Chão and Monforte (all in Portalegre) have an extremely high risk of contagion at this time and more than a thousand new cases per 100,000 inhabitants out of 4 days and December 17. In addition, these five municipalities more than doubled the number of new infections compared to the period from November 25 to December 8.

Other municipalities, such as Penedono (Viseu), Sernancelhe (Viseu) and Alvito (Beja), despite having lower risk levels, saw the incidence of covid-19 increase more than five times between these two periods.

The data released this Monday by the DGS allowed the Government to define the new risk map last Thursday, in which 30 regions appear with a very high level of contagion since they have more than 960 new cases per 100,000 inhabitants in 14 days. .

Vimioso (2908 new cases per 100 thousand inhabitants), Marvão (2862) and Castelo de Vide (2364) are at the top and are the only ones with more than two thousand new infections. Already distant from these higher numbers are the municipalities of Felgueiras (824), Lousada (635) and Paços de Ferreira (508), which are still at a very high risk level but are no longer among the most serious situations from the country. This happens two months after these three municipalities have reached a record level of new infections.

In addition to these 30 municipalities with high risk, there are another 79 of very high level, also covered by the strictest regulations defined by the Government, such as the prohibition of driving on public roads on weekends after 1:00 p.m. Lisbon (518) and Porto (624) remain on this list.

The municipalities of the Lisbon region and the Tagus Valley such as Alenquer, Moita, Montijo or Barreiro have a very high risk and a large increase in cases. Other municipalities of Greater Lisbon, such as Oeiras (318), Cascais (399) or Amadora (385), are outside the major restrictions. In Greater Porto, municipalities such as Vila Nova de Gaia (613) and Matosinhos (571) are still subject to strict rules.

In the country as a whole, there are now 156 regions where the number of cases has decreased in these two periods in comparison and 131 where infections have increased (there have been no changes in the rest). Barrancos (Beja district) and Alcoutim (Faro) managed not to have any new cases between December 2 and 17.
