Frequent private passengers and passenger transport vehicles will have discounts when passing through the tolls of the old SCUTs from January 1, the Government announced this Thursday.

According to the Minister of Territorial Cohesion, Ana Abrunhosa, the Council and the Ministers today decided that the owners of Class 1 and Class 2 vehicles that are frequent passengers on the old roads at no cost to the user (SCUT) will only pay tolls on the seven first days of use in a month, which can be followed or interpolated, with discounts of 25% on the next entries.

“Families pay tolls and, from the eighth day of circulation in a month, all tickets benefit from a 25% discount. To have access to this discount, you only have to have the electronic device and no certification or certification is necessary. any request ”, explained Ana Abrunhosa.

The objective of these measures is to comply with the Government’s program on the need to reduce the costs of the context and bring the populations closer in the context of territorial cohesion, and reduce accidents, “since they facilitate the use of safer roads” .

The routes included in this measure are the A22 (Via do Infante, in the Algarve), the A23 – Autovía Beira Interior (either the IP concession or the Beira Interior concession), the A24 – Autovía Interior Norte, the A25 – Autovía Beiras Litoral y Alta, Autovía A28 – Norte Litoral, A4 (in the Transmontana sub-concession and concession in the Marão Tunnel section), A13 and A13-1 (called Pinhal Interior sub-concessions).

On the other hand, according to the official, the discounts that are currently assigned to goods transport vehicles will be updated and extended to passenger transport vehicles.

The four existing ordinances that currently exist with discounts granted to the transport of goods will be “harmonized” and will be replaced by a single ordinance.

This ordinance will establish that the harmonized discount for freight vehicles and passengers goes from 30% to 35% during the day and from 50% to 55% at night, weekends and holidays.

This is, of course, intended to encourage the use of public transport, ”stressed Ana Abrunhosa.

The routes that benefit from this discount for the transport of goods and passengers are those already mentioned for private discounts and, in addition, the concessions in Greater Porto (A4, A41 and A42) and the Costa da Prata concessions (A3, A7, A25 and A29).

“The budgetary impact of the measure worldwide is 10 million, which already includes the loss of income [pela atribuição dos descontos], offset by the eventual increase in income [pelo eventual aumento da procura]”he added.

According to the minister, in most cases the budgetary impact of the measure is negative, because they are underutilized, assuming a “potentially positive impact, especially in one sense, which is the A22”, which can offset the loss of income through of the decline. the price.

Also according to the minister, the measures will come into force on January 1, according to a joint ordinance between the Ministry of Territorial Cohesion, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Housing and the Ministry of Finance.
