Tomorrow, at the II National Convention of Chega, in Évora, representatives of the European parliamentary group Identity and Democracy will attend, where Marine Le Pen and Matteo Salvini are also present. Before that, a demonstration in Praça do Giraldo, this Friday, will be located in the same place less than two hours apart, supporters of Chega and Frente Unitária Antifascista.

This is due to the fact that the Évora City Council authorized two contrary demonstrations: Chega, against racism, against corruption and against attacks on the police forces, and that of the United Antifascist Front, which calls for the mobilization of all “against fascism” . and the extreme right, according to a statement from the organization.

André Ventura told SAPO24 that “Chega’s demonstration was authorized more than a month ago” and that there is no doubt that the chamber was aware of the “counter-demonstration, which has been mentioned in the news.” Therefore, “if something happens, they will be responsible,” he says. According to the Chega leader, “a few hundred people are expected.”

The demonstration of the Antifascist United Front began at 5:00 p.m. and will continue until 8:00 p.m. in Praça do Giraldo, where there will already be a strong police force, while that of Chega will begin at 7:30 p.m. and must end one more hour late.

Tomorrow will be the day of the II National Convention of Chega, for the first time in the city of Alentejo. The congress, as a demonstration, will be attended by representatives of the European parliamentary group Identity and Democracy – which has 73 MEPs – where Marine Le Pen, from the Rassemblement National, and Matteo Salvini, from the Northern League are also present.

In this case, neither will be present, but both sent videos, which will be shown at the Convention, and representatives. Marine Le Pen’s representative Thierry Mariani, MEP and Nicolas Sarkozy’s minister, will speak on Sunday, as will Belgian party chairman Vlaams Belang Tom Van Grieken.

The representatives of the European parties that make up Identidad y Democracia were having lunch with André Ventura in the Assembly of the Republic today and some will remain in Portugal until Sunday, the closing date of the II National Convention of Chega.
