The Portuguese poet, essayist and artist Ernesto Manuel de Melo e Castro passed away this Saturday 29 in São Paulo, Brazil. He was 88 years old.
It was through Facebook that Eugénia Melo e Castro announced the death of his father, the Portuguese poet EM de Melo e Castro.
“My father died last night in São Paulo. One of the most important poets and man of art and culture in the world. E. M de Melo e Castro 1932/2020. My dear father,” wrote the 62-year-old singer in the caption of the photo of a photograph, in which he appears with the relative.
EM de Melo e Castro was a pioneer of experimental poetry in Portugal, as well as textile engineering in the country, in the 1950s and 1960s.
Graduated in textile engineering, but with a training always linked to literature, having completed a doctorate in Letters at the University of São Paulo, he was one of the Portuguese artists most loved by the Brazilian public, the country where he lived for more than 20 years.
