The Chega party this Sunday obtained its first two deputies elected in the regional legislatures of the Azores, by the circles of the island of São Miguel and compensation, according to the results released by the Regional Directorate of Organization and Public Administration (DROAP).

In Chega’s debut in the Azores elections, in which he had candidates in eight of the 10 constituencies, the party’s first elected deputy was Carlos Augusto Borges Rodrigues Furtado, 49, a merchant, candidate for the island’s constituency from São Miguel and regional leader. . The PS lost the absolute majority, obtaining 39.1% of the votes and 25 deputies (losing five). The PS has governed the region since 1996, but only in the elections held in 2000 did it obtain an absolute majority, renewed in the 2004, 2008, 2012 and 2019 votes. To achieve an absolute majority, the PS should have at least 29 of the 57 deputies of the Azorean Parliament. .

The PSD came in second place, but won two deputies (gets 21), obtaining 33.7% of the votes. The CDS-PP remains the third political force (5.5%, it has 3 deputies, one less than in 2016) and Chega reaches 5.0% (two deputies).

BE stands at 3.8% (two deputies). The Liberal Initiative manages to elect a deputy in the compensation circle. The PAN elects a parliamentarian (another premiere), the PPM maintains a deputy and the CDU could not elect any.
