The airline will have three A319 aircraft based in the Algarve capital and plans to create 100 new direct jobs. The company will fly to 17 international destinations from the Algarve between March and October 2021.

The British low-cost airline will go from nine to 12 aircraft based in Portugal, with this decision, with five in Lisbon, four in Porto and three in Faro.

This decision “avoids layoffs and will allow this growth at a time when we are going through a global crisis”, stated the director of Easyjet Portugal, José Lopes.

At the press conference held this morning, the official assured that this decision aims to “defend the existing network and prevent 2021 from continuing to be a year of failures; 2021 will be the first year of recovery ”.

Easyjet carried 7.2 million passengers to / from Portugal in 2019, with a total of 325 workers in the country.

For his part, the Minister of Economy welcomed this investment at a “time when the air transport sector is facing the greatest crisis in history.”

“It is a sign of confidence in the future. Whoever prepares in difficult times to respond with vigor, takes better advantage of the recovery, “said Pedro Siza Vieira.

“This demand exists and is repressed by the restrictions to the circulation that several states are imposing”, considered the minister during the press conference.

“Starting in March 2021, I hope that we can better exploit the desire to travel of all Europeans,” said the minister.
