The president of the United States rejected the economic stimulus package approved by Congress, calling for its modification and calling it a “disgrace”.

“I call on Congress to change this bill and increase the ridiculously low $ 600 to $ 2,000 or $ 4,000 for a couple. I also call on Congress to get rid of unnecessary and expensive elements of this law.” , demanded, in a video posted on Twitter social network.

Without explicitly saying that he would not sign the bill, Trump asked that an amended “adequate” law be sent to him.

On Monday, the Senate approved the bill with 91 votes in favor and seven against, hours after the House of Representatives voted 359 in favor and 53 against.

The emergency package was included in the spending law to finance the federal administration until September 2021, for a total amount of $ 2.3 billion (€ 1.8 billion).

The most striking points of the stimulus package are the payment of $ 600 to all Americans with incomes less than $ 75,000 a year and unemployment benefits of $ 300 a week.

Its final entry into force was pending ratification by the outgoing president, Donald Trump.
