The Portuguese request for COVID-19 screening has given much to talk about, especially in recent days. Called STAYAWAY COVID, it was designed and created to help stop the chains of transmission of disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus.

A response to the new coronavirus pandemic involves preventive measures, such as the use of a mask, social distance, frequent hand washing and respiratory etiquette.
In addition, and as we are today, many countries have chosen to create a mobile application as a way to detect and break possible transmission chains.
Portugal was one of those countries and created the Portuguese application STAYAWAY COVID, available for the Google Play Store, AppStore and AppGallery.
The STAYAWAY COVID app detects the physical proximity between smartphones and informs users that they have been in the same space as someone infected in the last 14 days. But rest assured, therefore the app does not record any infected information or smartphone identification. Plus, it's completely free.
If you receive a notification that you were close to someone diagnosed with COVID-19, the user should call the SNS24 line or the family doctor to find out how to proceed.
State of Calamity and the mandatory application proposal
Last week, the Government of António Costa activated the State of Calamity that began on Thursday, October 15. It is a decision to significantly increase the number of daily infected cases, thus also causing an increase in the number of hospitalized and dead.
Some more restrictive measures were enacted in the context of this calamity, but there was one that generated controversy among the Portuguese, which was the proposal for the mandatory use of the STAYAWAY COVID application by the population.
