The former Wolverhampton striker gave Liverpool the win.

Portuguese international Diogo Jota scored Liverpool’s winning goal against Sheffield United (2-1) this Saturday in the sixth match of the English League, allowing the Reds to equal Everton at the top of the table.

Norway’s Sander Berge also put the visitors ahead, scoring a penalty in the 13th minute, but Liverpool reacted in the 41st through Brazilian striker Roberto Firmino.

In the second half, in the 64th minute, Diogo Jota headed in the winning goal, after Senegalese Sadio Mané crossed, after Egyptian “star” Salah had seen an offside goal disallowed just a minute earlier.

With the three points, Liverpool keep Everton at the top of the Premier League standings, with 13 points from six games, but Carlo Ancelotti’s side may walk away on Sunday when he travels to Southampton.

In the rest of the day’s matches in England, Manchester United and Chelsea drew 0-0 and lagged further behind in the fight for the top spots, in Edinson Cavani’s debut with the Red Devils.

At Old Trafford, Portuguese international Bruno Fernandes started for the local team, but this time he was left blank, in a match in which the main figure was Chelsea goalkeeper, Senegalese Édouard Mendy, who kept the null until the final.

With this result, Chelsea remain in sixth place, with nine points, while Manchester United are in a surprising 15th place, with seven.

For their part, Manchester City (12th), which had the departure of Portuguese internationals Rúben Dias, João Cancelo and Bernardo Silva, took advantage of the trip to West Ham (11th), with forward Michail Antonio to mark the 18 and Phil Foden to tie for the formation guided by Guardiola, after the assistance of Cancelo.

In one of the London derbies, Crystal Palace went to the field of the bottom-ranked Fulham to win 2-1 and provisionally moved up to fifth place with 10 points.

Ivorian Zaha, with goal and assistance, stood out at the Palace.
