DGS Bulletin. Portugal equals second worst day in terms of deaths: Observer

The number of deaths increased again and the country again equaled the second worst day in terms of deaths from Covid-19. In the last 24 hours there were 87 deaths, 14 more than the day before, the day there were 73 dead.

The death toll has decreased over the past week, but this Sunday it has risen again. November 28 was the second worst day in terms of deaths, also with 87 deaths, with the highest number (91) was recorded on November 16.

Of the 87 deaths, 50 were registered in the northern region, 21 in Lisbon and Valle del Tajo, 14 in the Center and two in Alentejo. The fatal victims are:

  • 30 men and 33 women over 80 years of age;
  • 10 men and four women between 70 and 79 years old;
  • four men and two women between 60 and 69 years old;
  • three men between 50 and 59 years old;
  • a woman between 40 and 49 years old.

After this Saturday there was a sharp increase in new infections from the new coronavirus, the the number of new cases fell again this Sunday, thus returning to the downward trend that it had been experiencing since late November.

In the last 24 hours, according to the data provided in the epidemiological bulletin of the General Health Directorate (DGS), 3,834 new cases were registered, 2,253 less than this Saturday (6,087). With the exception of this Saturday, in the last week the number of new infections has varied between three thousand and four thousand cases, and this value has increased from Wednesday the 2nd to this Saturday. This Sunday it went down again.

Portugal account 332,474 confirmed cases of infection and 4,963 deaths since the start of the pandemic.

The north continues to be more affected. Of the new cases, 2,258 were registered in the region, representing 58.9% of all new cases registered in the last 24 hours. This Saturday, the region had accounted for 49.2% of the new cases.

Follow Lisbon and the Tagus Valley, with 773 more cases (20.2%) and the Central region more than 500 cases (13%). In Alentejo there were 215 new infections (5.6%) and in the Algarve 62 (1.6%). Madeira represented four more cases (0.1%) and the Azores another 22 (0.6%).

According to this Sunday’s bulletin, There are 3,268 people hospitalized for Covid-19 in Portugal, 39 cases more than yesterday. Of these cases of hospitalization, there are 514 in Intensive Care Units (ICU), at least three cases for this Saturday.

They were also accounted for 895 new active cases Covid-19, in a total of 74,456. 243,055 people have recovered from Covid-19 since the pandemic began. In the last 24 hours, 2,852 more recovery cases were registered, a figure much lower than this Saturday (6,165).

There are 223 additional contacts under surveillance in the last 24 hours, for a total of 77,420.
