DGS Bulletin. First weekly increase in cases since the peak of the pandemic – Observer

It is the first time since the peak of the pandemic that the weekly average number of cases has risen compared to the previous week. In the last seven days (from the bulletin of the General Health Directorate on Sunday), the average number of daily cases with Covid-19 was around 442, 4.3% more than the 423 of the previous week. Two weeks ago, the daily average was 480 and before 612.

The last rise between the Sunday and Saturday bulletins had been in the last week of January, from 24 to 30, when an average of 12,364 cases per day was registered, compared to 12,151 the previous week.

Despite this, this Saturday’s bulletin was marked by declines. The 280 infections identified by the DGS correspond to 64 fewer cases than the same day last week (344) and 177 fewer than 15 days ago. We will have to go back to August 23 to find such a low record for this day of the week (at that time 145 cases), although these numbers refer to a holiday (this Friday).

Lisboa and Vale do Tejo registered 95 of the 280 cases of infection identified on the last day (33.9%). That is, one in three cases was identified in the capital region, which also includes part of the districts of Setúbal, Santarém and Leiria. It is followed by the North region (73 cases, that is, 26.1%), Algarve (48), Center (19), Alentejo (18), Madeira (17) and Azores (10).
