In a statement, the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) affirms that the Dora depression, which is associated with a cold surface, will be felt as of today in the afternoon and will cross the entire territory during the day on Friday. market.

The effects of this depression in the continental territory will be felt by the increase in the intensity of the wind from today afternoon, which will extend until the beginning of Saturday with gusts of up to 80 kilometers per hour on the west coast and up to 95 kilometers per hour. hour in the mountains. having issued a yellow warning to various districts, “reference is made.

According to the IPMA, an increase in maritime disturbances is also expected, particularly on the west coast as of the end of today, with the significant height of the waves being able to reach 7 meters and being from the northwest, with an alert being issued. orange.

The IPMA also adds that the depression is associated with a cold frontal surface, giving rise to precipitation, which will be in the form of snow at levels above 1,400 / 1,600 meters and gradually descending to 600/800 meters.

Due to this situation, the IPMA issued a yellow snow warning for most of the districts of the North and Center regions, in particular on Friday.

“Due to the transport of a cold air mass in the joint circulation of the depression with an anticyclone located in the northwest of the Azores, a drop in temperature is also expected until Saturday, which, associated with the intensification of the wind, will cause an increase thermal discomfort ”. , the IPMA advances even more.

The IPMA published on Friday the entire orange coast of Portugal, northern Madeira and Porto Santo due to the forecast of severe maritime disturbances.

The districts of Viana do Castelo, Braga, Porto, Aveiro, Coimbra, Leiria, Lisbon, Setúbal, Beja and Faro will be under this notice between 00:00 hours on Friday and 17:00 hours on Saturday.

Waves from the northwest are expected from 5 to 7 meters high, reaching a maximum height of 10 to 14 meters.
